First, I am a qualified tech/engineer on a good many sophisticated pieces of equipment. Radio Bob Bob Hardie: Hi there, anyone, and possibly I need some help on my Icom 775DSP. The 781 is a great radio, but the 775 DSP is nicer sounding.Д®njoy and have fun. Saves me from having to buy VHF and UHF all mode rigs. At one time 2 years ago I had here on the desk, ( all at the same time: Icom 781 Icom 775 DSP Yaesu Ft 1000D Yaesu FT 1000 Mark V Kenwood TS 950 SDX Kenwood TS 2000 Icom 756 Pro I Icom 756 Pro II ALL are now gone, except for the 781, 775 DSP, and the TS 2000 The TS 2000 is my all round general DC - light radio. I have all the filters installed, and they all work just great. It's about 4 KC wide and very nice if the band is not to busy. If you install the AM filter, you can listen to SSB in the wide mode. It has never been often or bad enough to make me want to sell the radio, or bad mouth it.

THIS ONLY HAPPENS, when a extremely ( unusally ) strong signal happens to be on the second VFO's freq. The only glich that I have found, and that has been reported, is the very, very rare bleed over from the second VFO, in the dual watch mode. I have never seen any of the ' horror ', problems that others on eham have reported. I can say that all preformed about the same. Two were between # 1000 and # 1300, and two were above # 2700 ( still have one of those ).

All of these upgrades were incorporated into the production runs, after serial number # 2000, but I would look for a model with a serial number above # 2200 to be sure. There were six major upgrades to the icom 775 DSP. These seem to be the only two radios by any of the big three to be numbered this way. I have never seen or heard of a 781 below # 1000. I have never seen, or heard of a serial number lower that # 1000 on the 775 DSP.

It does seem like Icom started the serial numbers at # 1000. Icom may of had different ranges of serial numbers for different parts of the world. Unlike many radios, the 775 DSP never had a ' year / production run ', code built into the serial number. The highest serial number that was sold was in the 3000 - 3100 range.
